Welcome to The Conscious Detox, where we tap tastemakers in different cities with varying careers and lifestyles to take us on their journey of what "consciously detoxing" means to them. From making the switch to clean beauty products to recycling old clothes and prioritizing vintage, to swapping out traditional household cleaning supplies, or investing in non-toxic furniture and bedding, each person walks us through their process for making simple everyday switches in their existing routine to live a more mindful lifestyle.
One glance at Ally Walsh's Instagram feed will transport you to the humble charm, nature-filled, "easy-livin" of life in Los Angeles. Even though she's a model, we're not talking about the glitz and glamor of the Hollywood rush. In fact, that's just one of the many hats she wears. For Walsh, it's a dinner table full of farmer's market organic produce, chilled-out décor in her newly bought house, and creative passions that turned into business with her partner, Casey. From escapes to the lush trees of NorCal, to snapshots of her free-spirited van road trip, and simple barefoot mornings at home pressing juice, the 33-year-old model, mom-to-be, and co-founder of Canyon Coffee is more than just a cool girl aesthetic. The warm and welcoming tone of her photos parallel the inner beauty she also exudes, as she sat down with us to talk about conscious consumption.
For Walsh, living clean and green isn't something that happened over night. At its core, conscious living places intention behind every decision, which can come from living at a much slower pace. She shares accessible tips that help her consume smarter and live well, along with some of her favorite lifestyle products, like the Avocado green mattress, that fit both her effortlessly chic, yet cozy style matched with her passion for healing the planet.
One small healthy home swap, like switching to reusable produce bags can turn into a snowball effect of incorporating more practices like this into your life. Walsh's key to living well is to recognize the conscious detox as a multi-faceted lifestyle, not a job to check off the list. The baby steps over time trickle into varying lifestyle avenues like food, skin care, and furniture. The progression of it all makes the process far more authentic and enjoyable. Give Walsh's Insta a scroll to get inspired, and read about her conscious detox, ahead.

Describe your lifestyle or walk us through what a typical "day in the life" looks like:
"I run Canyon Coffee with my partner, Casey. Each day is varied based on the needs of the business, but my mornings always start with a cup of black coffee and meditation. Photoshoots, content creation, account visits, and meetings with the team fill the day. I usually take a nice walk or yoga class after work, and then an early dinner with lots of seasonal vegetables (ideally from our yard) completes the day."
What are some of your favorite places to shop at?
"I try to shop local in L.A. I love General Store in Venice and Tenzo in Echo Park for home goods and gifts, Plant Material for native California plants, Cookbook for seasonal veggies and the best pantry items. We like the Thursday night farmer's market in Pasadena and Sunday in Atwater Village."
What does conscious detoxing mean to you?
"I don't think conscious detoxing is an overnight thing. It involves steps, and really—amounts to a lifestyle. I've always been drawn to organic skin care, and only using products on my skin that I could ingest (in theory). From there, I think it's natural to start looking at ways to avoid useless waste: harmful chemicals and use of plastics. I recently discovered the eco home care company. Dropps. I use their pods for laundry and our dishwasher. I also switched my toilet paper to Plant Paper. I love how both companies have plastic-free packaging. We also sleep on an organic latex Avocado mattress, and I love knowing that my family is sleeping well without any harmful toxins. Finding and supporting companies like this, that are committed to cutting waste and minimizing their footprint is exciting to me, and it keeps me hopeful.
"I also feel so fortunate to be a new homeowner. This gives us more opportunities to live consciously and help make a positive impact on the land, soil, and surrounding environment. We have an outdoor shower, and we're excited to set up a water capture to use for watering our various plants and fruit trees. We're planning to convert our land primarily to drought-resistant landscaping and bringing in lots of native plant species to benefit pollinators and native birds. Finally, we are excited to install solar panels to offset our electricity use and feed the grid with renewable energy."
What inspired you to become interested in healthier lifestyle products?
"I think it began with what I was eating and putting on my body. It grew outwards from there. I was always paying attention and seeking out organic food to eat. It's not just about me, but the impact my choices are making on the planet. I want to support products and businesses that aren't harming our planet. From there, that intention grows and starts to fill into other parts of your life, including the products we use. At some point, I probably started simple with reusable grocery and produce bags and began looking for more products with minimal packaging from there."
How do you discover "better-for-you" brands, products, and processes?
"Honestly, social media! I try to follow accounts that educate and promote a cleaner lifestyle."
What are some accessible ways the average consumer can incorporate conscious detoxing into their lives?
"Start small. You don't need to spend a lot of money. Plan ahead. It's usually when we need something fast and convenient that we wind up reaching for the quickest option, and that's not always the most sustainable or eco-friendly."
What is a mantra you live by?
"Remember to breathe. Tasks might look overly simple just written down. I feel it's so important to take a moment to consciously breathe to stay centered and grounded throughout the day."
What is a valuable life lesson you've learned so far?
"Don't be afraid to ask for support, whether that's in business, with friends and in life in general."
What advice would you give to your younger self?
"Good things take time. Enjoy where you're at today."
What are some ways you practice self-love?
"Taking the time I need for myself. Laying down to read, going on a long walk solo or with a friend, an outdoor shower, booking myself a massage."
"This Christy Dawn dress is from their regenerative farm-to-closet program. They bought 24 acres of depleted land in India and have been working with a farmers collective to replenish the soil and grow cotton regularly."
"Lesse is my favorite local skin-care company. The ingredients are all organic and my skin feels so healthy."
"Our Avocado bedding is organic toxin-free, and so comfortable! We have been getting the best night's sleep on our mattress and pillows."
