The Best Met Gala Looks of All Time

In recent years, the Met Gala has surpassed the Oscars as the red carpet event of the year. Whether or not celebrity attendees properly interpret the theme has become a common topic of critique across social media, and continues to remain at the forefront of the conversation each year. (I haven’t seen such a passionately argued debate over the concept of “camp” since the day we discussed Susan Sontag and John Waters in my sophomore art history seminar at Sarah Lawrence College.)

In preparation for this year’s event, “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” (with the added directive of “Gilded Glamour”) and the extravagant outfits that come with it, we’re taking a look back at some of our favorite Met Gala looks of all time. From Bianca Jagger’s iconic Dior gown (later replicated by Kaia Gerber) to Rihanna’s canary yellow Guo Pei ensemble, prepare for some Met Gala red carpet nostalgia, ahead.
