In Croatia Its an Endless Summer All Year Round

When planning the idyllic European vacation, there are particular destinations that tend to make the top of everyone’s list: South of France, Mykonos, and Venice to name a few. While these destinations are beautiful in their own ways, they tend to be extremely overpopulated during prime travel months. While these places remain on my bucket list, veering away from the on-trend locales is deeply underrated. As much as I love a touristy spot now and again—I mean, who doesn’t love cosplaying The White Lotus—I’ve grown to love places off the beaten path as they often possess the same aura of an idyllic European vacation. Enter: Split, Croatia.

This summer, I had the pleasure of staying at Le Méridien Lav in Split, Croatia. Never having been to any coastal European city,I was excited to experience my first European summer ‘Au Soleil’ style. After spending a weekend taking in the warm weather, eating Croatian and Mediterranean cuisine, and drinking more rosé and cappuccinos than I could count, I can confirm that Split is an ideal European vacation spot. Whether you’re looking to explore a new city, have some much needed R&R, or anything in between, Split is the place for you. As the locals say, ‘Pomalo’, meaning ‘Take It Easy’, and below are the ways you can do just that.

Where to Stay

Le Méridien Lav, Split

Situated along the Dalmatian Coast, Le Méridien Lav is about a thirty-minute drive from the historic and quaint quarters of old town Split, allowing visitors to experience both the bustling nature of the city and the restorative elements of a beach vacation. From the moment I stepped foot on the property, I was in awe of the expansive views of the Croatian coast, the breathtaking blue of the Adriatic Sea, the vast mountain ranges, and the post-card-worthy beaches. I was left with an unparalleled sense of calm.

The entirety of the resort truly felt like a dream, bringing all the best elements of a European summer to life with stunning views of the marina right outside your window, a stretch of beaches, and refreshing treats and dining options. After exploring and enjoying all the resort had to offer, I discovered Le Méridien Lav is a hidden gem for embracing the European way of living.

What To Do

Take a Trip at Sea

If you’re drawn to the water, I highly recommend splurging to rent a boat for the day to Brač or Nečujam Bay. With views of the mountains, terracotta-red rooftops, and endless blue waters, an afternoon at sea is the ultimate way to clear your mind.

Explore Split’s Historic Old Town

If you’re a history buff or simply want to stretch your legs, take a ride to see the captivating landmarks and sights of Diocletian’s Palace, Cellars, and more. Filled with ancient ruins, museums, and restaurants, there’s something to discover around every alleyway.

Book a Spa Treatment

There is no better feeling than unwinding and prepping your skin before or after a long day in the sun. In typical European fashion, I decided to pause, take some time for myself and book a spa appointment at Re: Cupera within the resort's property. I opted for a 45-minute vitality facial, but guests can choose from a menu of options for a 45-75 minute facial or massage.

Embrace the Summer Sun

Lounging by one of the property's two beaches or infinity pool is never a bad idea. With Pinterest-worthy views, bask in the sun and enjoy the Croatian Coast as you people-watch or read a book with a glass of rosé.

Where to Eat & Drink

Conlemani

As a lover of Italian food, this restaurant caught my eye. Fresh off a chaotic travel day, I ordered arancini and a cappuccino for a little pick-me-up. The menu has everything from pizza and pasta to lobster and fish. As an added bonus, it’s located right on the marina.

Gooshter Beach Club

Goosheter Beach Club is a great spot for a meal with a view. Located on Le Méridien’s property, this restaurant is steps away from the beach. I ordered the shrimp pad thai and, of course, a glass of rosé.

Zoi

Located in the heart of the old town, Zoi is a Michelin-star restaurant with stunning harbor views. With Mediterranean-influenced cuisine, the tasting menu consisted of land and sea options and was beautifully paired with various wines. To top it off, the ambiance was unmatched with a summer breeze and a breathtaking golden-hour view.

Le Scoop

A signature of all Le Méridien properties, Le Scoop is the gelato spot for a sweet treat any time of day. Partnering with New York-based private chef and tastemaker, Meredith Hayden, the brand recently introduced a bespoke (and absolutely delicious) rosé-infused strawberry sorbet inspired by Whispering Angel. Available for a limited time only through the end of October, the sweet treat is paired with a side of Whispering Angel rosé, making it the perfect bite for a hot day spent under the sun. And, of course, the caviar-style presentation is just as good as the sorbet itself.

Shop Split, Croatia Packing Essentials

After learning the hard way that a checked bag is not ideal for a trip abroad, I’ve compiled the top things that I actually used and wore. As an over-packer, these are my must-haves to take you from a dip in the sea to dinner in town to a golden hour photoshoot, and beyond.
